ADULT IOP (INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT
Intensive Outpatient Treatment is non-residential treatment for more severe cases of alcoholism and other drug addiction. It allows for the individual to continue to work while also providing a more intensive approach. It usually will mean nine or more hours per week in an outpatient group setting.
IOP is recommended when the issues with alcohol and/or other drugs is more involved or when there have been repeated legal issues related to the use of alcohol and/or other drugs, such as three DUI arrests in less than a 10-year period.
At times IOP is recommended following an inpatient program as a step-down for gradual reentry into everyday life. It may also be recommended following an inpatient treatment mental health program if substance abuse issues need to be addressed upon discharge from the inpatient program.
