Spirituality in Recovery Program

Our Spirituality in Recovery Program is an ongoing coaching program consisting of group sessions and monthly individual consultation with a coach who has experience in the field of addiction treatment and pastoral ministry. Spirituality is an essential element in recovery because of the devastating consequences of chemical dependency on a person and his/her life. Reflections are offered in a Christian context based on the Sacred Scriptures but without reference to a particular church or religion. For more information and to register, you can click HERE!

Secretary of State Hearings

Anyone needing an Administrative Hearing related to a history of the use of alcohol and/or other drugs to petition driving privileges, must complete an alcohol/drug evaluation within six months of the hearing date and complete any recommendations made in the evaluation. You can get great information to prepare for a hearing in my e-book. Click here.

Jimare Wellness Counseling is licensed and qualified to complete evaluations needed for an administrative hearing. You can call us to help you with this process.

However, even more important than the evaluation itself, is being prepared before walking into the room with a hearing officer.

Whether you will have a formal or an informal hearing, in order to succeed and get a positive response from the Secretary of State, the Petitioner must “carry their burden of proof” and “convince” the Secretary of State that they have resolved any issues related to the use of alcohol and/or other drugs in order to be entrusted with a license to drive and that they will not be a risk to public safety.

Whether you have completed your evaluation with us or not, we can help you to be successful at your hearing by offering you appropriate preparation and the information you need to know before you have your hearing.

Assessments
ASSESSMENTS

An individual may want to complete an assessment of alcohol and/or other drug use for various reasons. Someone may honestly recognize that the use of one or more substances is not going well or is interfering with their life, their happiness or their expectations.

Another reason could be a court mandate to complete an evaluation of alcohol and/or other drug use due to a legal matter before the court for things such as a DUI arrest, domestic violence, child custody, or a case where alcohol or another drug was involved.

Whatever the reason, if you want to learn more about your involvement with alcohol and/or other drugs, we can help.

DUI EVALUATIONS
There is an exception we need to mention regarding DUI court evaluations.

The Circuit Courts of Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties have made a court rule requiring that DUI evaluations for court be conducted in a particular designated agency. If the DUI arrest occurred in another county or out-of-state, we, or any SUPR-licensed agency can complete the court-mandated evaluation. For Cook, DuPage, or Lake county, please refer to the information you received in court or your attorney. For your convenience we have placed a link for these services below.

Please note that we are authorized to provide the services recommended in the court evaluations wherever they were conducted.

OTHER COURT ASSESSMENTS

All other court assessments, for example, one mandated for a domestic violence case, may be conducted at any local SUPR-licensed agency. We are court-recognized in all counties, including Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties. We have also worked with clients with cases in other counties or out-of-state.

SECRETARY OF STATE ADMINISTRATIVE HEARINGS

Administrative hearings with the Secretary of State, whether informal or formal, to petition reinstatement of driving privileges, require an evaluation within six months of the hearing date. Along with your evaluation, we will help you to gather all necessary documents and determine if you need to complete any intervention prior to your hearing. We can also help you to respond to any order of denial received from a previous hearing, whether informal or formal.

Adult IOP
ADULT IOP (INTENSIVE OUTPATIENT TREATMENT

Intensive Outpatient Treatment is non-residential treatment for more severe cases of alcoholism and other drug addiction. It allows for the individual to continue to work while also providing a more intensive approach. It usually will mean nine or more hours per week in an outpatient group setting.

IOP is recommended when the issues with alcohol and/or other drugs is more involved or when there have been repeated legal issues related to the use of alcohol and/or other drugs, such as three DUI arrests in less than a 10-year period.

At times IOP is recommended following an inpatient program as a step-down for gradual reentry into everyday life. It may also be recommended following an inpatient treatment mental health program if substance abuse issues need to be addressed upon discharge from the inpatient program.

DUI Services
DUI SERVICES

DUI arrests have serious consequences and penalties: license suspension and revocation, as well as court involvement. All persons arrested for DUI are usually required to complete a DUI evaluation, also known as a Uniform Report. In Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties, the courts have made it a court rule that these evaluations be done at the court-designated agency. In Cook County this is the Central States Institute, in DuPage County it is the Court DUI Services, in Lake County it is NICASA. Court DUI cases in other counties and out-of-state courts may be done by any SUPR-licensed agency. Evaluations for an Administrative Hearing with the Secretary of State likewise may be completed at any state-licensed agency.

DUI CLASSIFICATIONS – INTERVENTIONS

A DUI Uniform Report results in one of four classifications. Each classification has a recommended/required intervention, as follows:

Minimal Risk

10 hours of DUI Risk Education. A Minimal Risk classification will result from no symptoms of a substance abuse disorder and a recorded BAC of .08 to .14 and no previous DUI convictions or statutory summary suspension.

Moderate Risk

10 hours of DUI Risk Education and 12 hours of Early Intervention. Early Intervention is group educational counseling of no more than 3 hours per week over at least a four week period. A Moderate Risk classification will result from 0 or 1 symptom of a substance use disorder or a recorded BAC of .15 to .19 and no previous DUI conviction or statutory summary suspension.

Significant Risk

10 hours of DUI Risk Education and 20 hours of Outpatient Treatment. Outpatient Treatment is group counseling treatment of up to 6 hours per week with a minimum of 7 sessions. Counseling is followed by 6 monthly 2-hour sessions of Continuing Care. Continuing care is follow-up to treatment to support the maintenance of goals accomplished during treatment. Significant Risk classification results from having a previous DUI conviction or statutory summary suspension, or a BAC of .20 or more, or 2-3 symptoms of a substance use disorder.

High Risk

75 hours of Intensive Outpatient Treatment followed by 12 monthly 2-hour sessions of Continuing Care. Intensive Outpatient Treatment is group counseling treatment of 9 hours per week. The High Risk classification results from 4 or more symptoms of a substance use disorder or 3 DUI arrests in less than 10 years.

In all cases the offender has the freedom to complete the recommended/required intervention at any licensed agency of their choosing. If you have been mandated to complete any of these levels of intervention, give us a call today. We will be happy to serve you.

RECOVERY OF DRIVING PRIVILEGES

If your driving privileges are simply suspended, you just need to pay the corresponding fee when the suspension is completed and your privileges will be restored without any other paperwork or further requirements.

if your driving privileges are revoked, you will need to complete an administrative hearing to reinstate them. With one DUI conviction or one statutory suspension, you may have an informal hearing. With two or more convictions and/or summary suspensions, you will need to have a formal hearing.

In either case, prior to the hearing date you must have an evaluation completed no more than six months before the hearing date. If there are any recommendations or required interventions resulting from the evaluation, they must be completed before the hearing (except for continuing care).

If you have any questions regarding the reinstatement of your driving privileges, we recommend that you visit an informal hearing officer at a local branch of the Secretary of State Driver Services for a consultation and then call us for an appointment. We can properly advise you after a consultation with a current copy of your court purposes driving abstract.

Adult Outpatient Treatment
ADULT OUTPATIENT TREATMENT

Adult outpatient treatment is for individuals 18 years and older that are able to engage in treatment in an outpatient setting without continuing to use alcohol and/or other drugs and are in a safe and supportive environment without any complicating medical or mental health conditions or complications.

An assessment generally accompanies the enrollment in outpatient treatment to confirm that this level of treatment is appropriate in a particular case. Outpatient treatment is provided in a group setting and will usually be done between 3 and 6 hours per week.

There are several reasons that someone may consider outpatient treatment. The most common way that people come to outpatient treatment is through a court mandate due to a DUI or other legal issue that required an alcohol/drug assessment that recommends outpatient treatment as the indicated intervention. The length of treatment will be also indicated in the initial assessment or evaluation, most likely between 20 and 30 hours.

An individual may also arrive at outpatient treatment as a step-down from intensive outpatient or from a residential program. This is a transition in intensity of treatment to gradually return the individual to a normal lifestyle.

Someone can also come to treatment voluntarily when noting that the use of alcohol and/or other drugs is becoming more and more problematic. In this case an initial assessment will be done at the agency to provide a recommendation for addressing the issues that are disturbing the individual.

Outpatient Treatment Process

As mentioned above, this level of treatment will usually involve group sessions of between 20 and 30 hours total provided in 3-hour sessions 1-2 times per week. This will depend on the recommendations of the assessment, the person’s availability, and the intensity of the problem.

For treatment to be effective, it must be structured and consistent. The individual needs to be able to follow the progression of awareness and achieve the goals of the treatment process. This means that those involved in group outpatient treatment make a commitment to  the schedule that is programmed with the input of the client at intake. Failure to attend regularly can mean unsuccessful discharge from treatment.

Another element in the treatment process is complete abstinence from the use of alcohol and other drugs during treatment. Even for persons that have abused substances but are not addicted, abstinence is needed to confirm the level of substance use disorder and to best  help the individual to avoid future problems.
